Focus Group

As we've been instructed. For user research Group Discussion/Focus will be quite effective for this coursework. Focus Group has to be conducted by a moderator who has the printed questions and proper data gathering means(sound/Video/Paper Recording) etc. I am doing this discussion with my flat mates.

Interview Questions

1.  Who do you live with?

2. How do you communicate with your members of your house/flat?

3. How effective is it?

4. Are there any drawbacks with your communication system?

5. How would you improve your system?

I have asked members of my family these questions and most of them communicate with each through the means of a mobile phone. 

This is their only means of  communicating with each other.  

User Research

In order to complete my user research i am going to interview members of my family in order to find out what are the user requirements for the home messaging system. 

I am going to ask questions that are related to the messaging system such as:

Is there any special user requirements  from the user?

Who is going to use the system?

How would user interact with the system?

Where would you like to have the messaging system?

How big would you like the messaging system to be?

Do you want it to be only home based or would you like to have the option take it out when go on road?

Do you think that only one messaging system is enough for the whole house?

If not, how many would you like to have?

Would you like the different messaging systems to be linked with each other in order to share information?

How would you like to input data? 

How would you like to get the outcome from the messaging system?

How would you like to recognize that the system is sending you message but not another member from family?

Would you like to have User name and Password?

Do you want to chose a different color in order to recognize your messages?

Home messaging system

User Research:-

For this assignment.. each member of the team is looking and getting information from the users in their living circumstances.. They will use different kind of methods to gain information which we have studied in previous term/semester... ie.. Questionnaire, Scenarios, Personas..etc...

Every team member had individual user groups to target..my target user group was Families...

As i am living with my family, which consists of 4 people .Everyone in the family are working and hardly get time to talk with each other because of the busy schedule..I asked my family about their views for a home messaging system. Different kind of questions were asked.....

Q.What kind of features they would like to have in the device.. ?

Q.Which different places they would like to have the system to be placed..?

Q.What should be the size of a home messaging system... ?

Q.What kind of a home messaging system they prefer, Audio , Video or both?

My next step would be to prepare a questionnaire and get more ideas about a home messaging system from other families nearby where I live.
